I celebrated my 30th birthday here in the quaint and beautiful Lake Placid. Entering the Lake Placid village during Christmas time was like entering winter wonderland.
Suggested Winter Itinerary
Stay at Golden Arrow Lake Resort.
Day 1 - Arrive. Take a stroll on the frozen Mirror Lake. Enjoy a dog sled ride!
Day 2 - Enjoy cross country skiing or show shoeing at Cascade Mountain. Ice skate in the evening on Mirror Lake.
Day 3 - Visit the Lake Placid Olympic Ski Jumping Complex. Rest at a local brewery for drink and food!
Day 4 - Visit Ausable Chasm (The Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks). Hike with micro-spikes for safety.
Day 5 & 6 - Enjoy skiing at Whiteface Mountain for advance skiers for or Titus Mountain for beginner and intermediate level skiers.
Day 7 - Depart!

Interesting fact: Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980; one of the three sites to have twice hosted the Winter Olympic Games. In the U.S., the village is especially remembered as the 1980 USA–USSR hockey game site. Dubbed the "Miracle on Ice," a group of American college students and amateurs upset seasoned and professional Soviet national ice hockey team.

Whiteface Mountain
Whiteface Mountain is the fifth-highest mountain in the state of New York, USA, and one of the highest peak of the Adirondack Mountains. Set apart from most of the other High Peaks, the summit offers a 360-degree view of the Adirondacks and clear-day glimpses of Vermont and even Canada. Whiteface's ski area boasts 90 trails stretching over 25 miles and encompassing three peaks.

Titus Mountain
Titus is part of the Adirondack Mountains. The ski area boasts 50 trails and glades over three inter-connected mountains. Titus operates 10 lifts, as well as a two-lane tubing hill.
